Let’s be real - I feel as though there are only a fraction of people who still have a deep interest in what’s happening over at Marvel Studios. I am a part of that fraction, unfortunately. Phase 4 has been a hit or miss for everyone. We have to agree that it was very experimental and different but it was good! People need to learn to be more fun. Nevertheless, if you’re like me you too would know that there was a lot announced at San Diego Comic-Con last week. In case you are in the dark:
There’s a lot going on, as you can see. It was said that Phase 4-6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be titled The Multiverse Saga. I obviously do have a lot of thoughts, although I won’t be discussing everything. Firstly, let’s wrap up on Phase 4.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
It was a mistake waking up & then immediately watching the teaser trailer for this. I cried while watching it from beginning to end and I still cry when I find myself re-watching it. I’ve never witnessed a more beautifully put-together trailer in a while. The first Black Panther movie is something very special and showed us what a Marvel movie could truly be. Chadwick’s death still hurts, I think it will always affect us.
I’m just very excited to see this, and very few words are being said because I’m still struggling to find them. However, I do believe that this will be an absolutely stunning movie and probably the best project to come out of Phase 4.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law
Now listen, I don’t want to hear anything about the CGI. An official trailer was released at SDCC and it looks better? I’m not someone who likes to complain about CGI though, just let me have fun! I’m also not a comic book expert by any means, I should’ve clarified that in the beginning actually. However, I know things: Bruce Banner and Jennifer Walters are cousins, and Jennifer is an attorney. Okay, I know two things. Still. I think it’s better if I don’t know too much.
The show in general looks very entertaining and like loads of fun. I will be tuned in every week and doing so gladly! Not to be one of those people though who’s making this about Matt Murdock, but we all saw him at the end of the trailer. Let’s discuss Daredevil.
Daredevil: Born Again
Before we talk about the newly announced Disney+ series and move on to Phase 5, I have to discuss his 2-second She-Hulk footage. Firstly, that suit.
I don’t want to criticize it too harshly, you can barely see anything. Although, there is a hint of yellow (maybe gold) there and I am an anti-yellow suit person! For reference:
Atrocious. It’s clearly not my favorite thing in the world and I’m pretty sure his helmet is that yellow-gold color too. He doesn’t know any better though and I’ll wait to see it in the show before I make any further comments.
Moving onto the Disney + show. It was announced that Vincent D'Onofrio would be returning as Kingpin alongside Charlie Cox, who is reprising his role as Matt Murdock / Daredevil. Oh, and the show is eighteen episodes long. This is a very big deal. I won’t get into the history of Netflix & Daredevil’s cancelation and the #savedaredevil campaign. We’d be here for a while. Anyway, I am very excited. I love Matt Murdock, both from comic books and live-action. There are still questions and concerns with regards to the reboot. Will the remaining cast return? Will the show have its R-Rating again, what’s the violence scale looking like? Only time will tell but for now, I await his return in She-Hulk.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania
You simply cannot convince me that ANT-MAN (and The Wasp and his daughter Cassie) could possibly defeat Kang and MODOK. They really set him up with these villains. Scott Lang, I’m so sorry. Although, most of everything I read about the trailer footage shown at Hall H is interesting, to say the least. I’m not sure what they’re trying to do with Scott’s character but…
I can’t fully attest to anything until a trailer is publicly released and we all see it (which could take a few months) but here’s to hoping it’s good.
Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol.3
This is one of my most anticipated projects. I love The Guardians of The Galaxy team so much and honestly, the first two movies are near perfect to me. It’s great to see a story in the MCU come to a close as they’re ready and with a trilogy. I just know that this is going to leave me sobbing and throwing up but I’m excited and I’m ready. I trust James Gunn enough. Although saying my goodbyes to Rocket Raccoon already, I fear for him a lot.
Rapid-fire thoughts:
I’m the only person excited for Echo and I truly believe that the Hawkeye Series just didn’t do her justice. She’s going to serve!
I don’t know anything about Secret Invasion. Sorry.
Sam Wilson IS Captain America!!!
I have general excitement for everything else. Maybe not Thunderbolts though. Don’t ask me why.
I’m missing opinions for other things in Phase 5, I know. We’re also not going to talk about Phase 6 right now. That’s a discussion for a time (way) later. The Fantastic Four movie announcement is a newsletter on its own. I have a lot of thoughts about that one too, but we await a casting announcement first. D23 perhaps?
